Jefferson County Judge Gerald Robinson on Wednesday said the county road department has been working since Sunday night to clear roads covered by fallen trees and debris and so far have been able to open about 20 roads.

“There’s a lot of extensive damage from Humphrey to Pine Bluff,” Robinson said. “We’ve been clearing debris, cutting trees off roads. There were a lot of trees, particularly in the Sulphur Springs area. Highway 54, Middle Warren Road and Ridgway Road.”

He also said the storm was “one of the worst straight-line winds I’ve ever encountered.”

Robinson said while Arkansas and particularly Jefferson County was hit hard, other states had deaths to deal with as a result of storms.

“We’ve had a lot to deal with but we’re making it,” Robinson said. “We’re moving on. We’re working hard to try and keep our citizens safe.”
Robinson  announced the first death from the Corona virus during a meeting of the quorum court last week and on Wednesday said “I’m still praying that people take notice of what’s going on. Stay at home, practice social distancing, do all the things necessary.”
