Homicide Suspect Captured

On January 31, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Pine Bluff Detectives went to 104 West 26th Avenue and arrested 32-year-old, Samuel Mosby, who they believe was responsible for the death of 31-year-old, Derrick McAfee.  Pine Bluff VICE and Narcotics Detectives, and the Arkansas Community Corrections Fugitive Task Force assisted with the capture of Mosby.

Mosby was booked in at Dub Brassell Detention Center for Capital Murder, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Person, and Abuse of a Corpse.

On January 25, 2024, just after 10:00 AM, Officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department responded to the area of E. 26th and S. Indiana to attempt to locate a missing person. 31-year-old Derrick McAfee had been reported missing the evening before. McAfee’s family located his vehicle empty near the area of 26th and Indiana, called police, and then began searching the area. McAfee’s body was located in a cart on the North side of 26th near the address of 1300 E. 26th.

McAfee was pronounced dead at the scene by deputies of the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. Detectives state that this case is an apparent homicide. His body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
