Now that committee of the Pine Bluff City Council has recommended that legislation calling for an extension of the 5/8th cent sales tax and the addition of a 3/8th cent sales tax for public safety be placed on the ballot in May, Go Forward Pine Bluff is continuing to promote the tax.

A special meeting was held Wednesday night with Mayor Shirley Washington, members of the City Council, and members of the public to talk about the progress that has been made in the city and plans for the future.

On Thursday, Go Forward CEO Ryan Watley talked about the meeting when he appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show.

Next week, the State 5A- High School Basketball tournament will be held at the Pine Bluff Convention Center, something that would not have happened a few years ago.

Watley said Council members Lloyd Holcomb Jr., and Glen Brown Jr., are the sponsors of the legislation to put the taxes on the ballot, and two additional council members, LaTisha Brunson, and Steven Shaner have agreed to be co-sponsors.

He went on to say that Go Forward will not only promote the extension of the 5/8th cent tax but also the adoption of the 3/8th cent tax for public safety.
