A special meeting of the Jefferson County Quorum Court is scheduled for Wednesday where they are expected to try and approve the levy of taxes for 2024. State law requires that the court approve the tax rates during a regular meeting in November of December of each year for the next year.

Because of the current dissention between members of the court and County Judge Gerald Robinson, that has not been done.

A large portion of the taxes collected go to schools and on Tuesday, Jennier Barbaree, the Superintendent of the Pine Bluff School District was asked where her district will be if the quorum court doesn’t take any action by the end of the year.

She went on to say this.

Morning show host Greg Horne asked Barbaree how long the district would be able to operate if the quorum court fails to take action before it has to shut down.

Horne then asked how much conversation she has had with the governor or members of the state legislature about the issue.
