Pine Bluff’s downtown area could be getting a major change in its looks if a project that is being discussed comes to fruition.

The project is the redevelopment of the Plaza located at the corner of 6th Avenue and Main Street, directly across from the new Pine Bluff/Jefferson County’s Main Library.

On Wednesday, Ryan Watley, the Executive Director of Go Forward Pine Bluff talked to Deltaplex News about the project.

City and community leaders attended a meeting Tuesday where architectural plans for the plaza were shown and Watley described for Deltaplex News some of the things that could be located in the plaza.

The plaza area would also include the area where Simmons Bank currently has a drive-thru bank and Watley said bank officials are “entertaining the idea.”

The current plaza has a wall that would be taken down and used as a foundation for a water pool, thereby creating more green space for the food court and retail market, as well as space for outdoor murals.

Watley was also asked where the money would come from for the project.
