A Camden man was killed in the early morning hours Tuesday when the vehicle he was driving was hit by a train in Bearden.

According to a preliminary report, John W. Williams, 49, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe west on Elm Street when he failed to stop at a railroad crossing and his vehicle was hit by a Union Pacific train that was southbound.

Williams was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident was reported at 7:30 a.m. and the death was the 422nd so far this year on the state’s highways.
