A $5,000 bond was set Tuesday for a Pine Bluff man accused of forcing his way into an apartment, then interfering with emergency medical personnel who were attempting to treat a patient.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Quantae Jamerson, 34, with residential burglary and obstructing emergency personnel.

Quantae Jamerson

Reading from an affidavit from Detective Keith Banks, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said police were sent to an apartment on West 31st Ave., at 1:45 a.m. to assist ambulance personnel and the fire department who had responded to a medical emergency.

When the officers arrived, a male later identified as Jamerson approached them, as did a paramedic who said she and her partner and fire department personnel were attempting to treat a 74-year-old patient who had a diabetic issue when Jamerson ran into the apartment and tried to push them away from the patient.

Carson said the patient’s granddaughter was asked if Jamerson was a family member and the granddaughter said she did not know who Jamerson was. He was taken into custody and when officers started to take him to Jefferson Regional Hospital to be examined, he started beating his head on the window and the cage of the police car. He also allegedly told police he was “just trying to help.”

During the court hearing, Bridgforth appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Jamerson but cancelled that appointment after Jamerson said he would represent himself.
