A $150,000 bond was set Wednesday for a North Little Rock man who allegedly shot his former girlfriend on Aug. 12 after an altercation.

Michael Brazell

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Michael Brazell, 42, with first-degree domestic battery and with being a felon in possession of a firearm because of a prior conviction.

Detective DeShawn Bennett said in a probable cause affidavit that officers were sent to a house in he 4900 block of West 6th Avenue at 9;48 p.m. where the victim said Brazell had come to her house and then went to get her something to eat before leaving. She said he called her after she had left the house and asked if he left his debit card there.

She said Brazell became angry while they were on the phone because she did not immediately leave where she was at and go look for the debit card. She said when she went back to her house, she looked for the card and did not find it.

Bennett reported that the woman said Brazell came to her house and the two started to argue, and said he pulled out a black handgun during the argument. She said she turned away and tried to run and Brazell fired a single shot, striking her in the lower part of her back. She said he left, and she called police. She received a non-life- threatening wound to the lower back and was treated and released the next day. Attempts to locate Brazell that day were unsuccessful.

On Monday, police were called to the hospital where Brazell was being treated for a gunshot wound sustained in a separate incident and after he received treatment he was arrested. He was not questioned after he asked for an attorney.

Brazell was previously convicted of residential burglary and aggravated assault in 2013.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled.
