The Quapaw Nation’s Saracen Casino Resort Construction Team held a meeting for Pine Bluff and Jefferson County contractors at the Pine Bluff Convention Center last night.

The room was packed as John Berrey, Chairman of the Business Committee of the Quapaw Nation and Chairman of the Downstream Development Authority, discussed the construction work that needs to be done regarding the casino plan. Berrey emphasized that the Downstream Casino Resort will use local contractors with an emphasis on minorities.

The 330 million-dollar facility’s theme will be a mixture of Pine Bluff’s past Quapaw heritage, African American heritage and the Delta’s rich agricultural heritage.

Berrey hopes to have a permit for the Pine Bluff Casino by the end of April, to be “digging dirt” by June and to open a casino in Pine Bluff early in 2020.
