April 2nd will be the runoff date for the Pine Bluff Mayor and Third Ward Council Member

Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington was forced into a runoff with current State Representative Vivian Flowers Tuesday as the Mayor collected 27 more votes than Flowers in the six-person race.

Complete but unofficial results showed Washington with 1,940 votes to 1,913 for Flowers.

The two will face each other on April 2.

Former council member Joni Alexander Robinson finished third with 1,123 votes with current council member Steven Mays 4th with 267 votes. Former Parks and Recreation Director Samule Glove was 5th with 263 votes and political newcomer Charles Washington getting 59 votes to finish last.

Two of the four members of the council, Lloyd Holcomb and Bruce Lockett easily downed their opponents with Holcomb defeating Marlette Bolles and Lockett getting by Mar’Tavius Proctor.

Second Ward Incumbent Steven Shaner went down to defeat at the hands of Yvonne Denton, 1,070 to 459 and Third Ward Council Member Glen Brown Sr., was forced into a runoff with William Fells in a three-way race.

Whitfield formerly worked for the Police Department, then was elected Pine Bluff City Clerk before retiring.

She was asked about that by Deltaplex News.

Current City Clerk Janice Roberts had no trouble and rolled to victory over Mary Liddell.
