A detainee at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center has died after suffering a medical emergency according to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said Kevin Baquet, 38, experienced a medical emergency of an unknown nature at approximately 12:50 p.m. on April 1 while in custody at the facility. Detention center staff responded immediately and began rendering aid before Baquet was transported by EASI Ambulance to Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Baquet received medical treatment and underwent testing at the hospital as doctors worked to determine the cause of the emergency.
Authorities said there are no signs of foul play at this time. The incident remains under investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
