Star City Man Charged with Fraudulent Credit Card Refunds at Dollar General

A $1,500 bond was set Friday for a Star City man accused of giving cash refunds on credit card transactions at a store where he was working.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Ja’Maylen Barnes, 19, with fraudulent use of a credit card.

Reading from an affidavit by Sheriff’s Investigator Kristen Pennington, Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jill Reed said on Thursday, investigators were sent to the Dollar General on U.S. 63 South in response to a reported fraud report.

Reed said Barnes has no prior convictions or pending charges and he was told to come back to court Jan. 10, 2026.
