A $25,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Jefferson County man who allegedly hit another man with a golf club, knocking the man off a motorcycle and breaking the man’s leg.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Michael Paul Sliffe, 46, with second-degree battery.
Deputy Prosecutor Ty Spradlin said Sliffe was arrested Monday evening after a sheriff’s deputy responded to a reported disturbance on Hulse Road where he found the victim laying on the ground with blood on his pants leg.
Spradlin said a witness to the incident confirmed the victim’s account of what happened. Sliffe was not initially interviewed because he was reportedly intoxicated. When he was interviewed, he admitted swinging the golf club but denied hitting the victim. He said he hit the motorcycle and the victim fell off it and injured his leg.
Sliffe is currently on parole in Faulkner County for theft by receiving and a warrant has been issued alleging he has violated the conditions of his parole. He will be held without bond on that warrant pending a hearing before the parole board.
He was told to come back to court Oct. 8 and said he would hire his own attorney.
