A $40,000 bond was set Monday for a Pine Bluff man accused of taking a vehicle that didn’t belong to him, then leading police on a high-speed chase before crashing the vehicle.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Tony Thompson, 30, with theft of property, fleeing and criminal mischief.
Deputy Prosecutor Ty Spradlin said on Saturday at 3:30 a.m., police were sent to West 6th Avenue and Cypress Streeet in response to a report of a stolen vehicle.
Spradlin said the information about the stolen car was broadcast to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police and later a trooper saw the vehicle at the Dollar General at Highways 79B and 63 north.
When Thompson was interviewed, he said he took the car because he was scared because he was a person of interest in a missing person reported on May 14.
Thompson was told to come back to court June 23.
