Because of the switch from a nine-month to a nearly year-found calendar, the Pine Bluff School District will welcome students back to class Wednesday, a couple of weeks before other districts in Southeast Arkansas.

On Monday, Pine Bluff School District Superintendent Jennifer Barbaree talked about preparations for opening day when she appeared on the Oldies 1013 Morning Show.

Morning Show host Greg Horne asked Barbaree if teachers are happy about the new schedule or unhappy about the new schedule and she responded this way.

In addition to Wednesday being the first day of school, it is also the first day that non-partisan candidates can file for elected positions like Mayor or City Council, and that includes members of the Pine Bluff School Board. Barbaree talked about that.

Horne mentioned that the last time the state took over the district then returned it to local control, a lot of the people on that school board the state dismissed ran and were elected again and he said “please don’t do that again, continuing by saying the current board has a “lot of momentum now.”
