On Wednesday, Oldies 101.3 morning show host Greg Horne and Will Jenkins began a discussion of a major department store closing two stores in San Francisco, in large part because of crime related issues.
Pine Bluff Police Chief Denise Richardson joined the conversation and was asked about it, with Horne saying that a lot of businesses have left Pine Bluff, partly because of crime.
Richardson went on to say that you also have to take into account the way a city looks, the mindset of the people who live in the city, take into account what industries have left a city and what industries are coming in and what this city is having to compete with, geographically.
“We’re losing businesses to cities next door so there’s more to it than crime when we talk about losing population.
Horne then brought up the subject of a lengthy stretch without homicides, followed by a few homicides, and now another stretch and told Richardson that it appeared that reported crime is down, compared to previously.
Richardson went on to say the public safety tax is the perfect opportunity for the department.
