The Pine Bluff School Board decided to buy out Superintendent Michael Robinson’s contract for $50,000.
The board named Monica King McMurry as interim superintendent. McMurry had been the executive director of Learning Services for the PBSD.
Additionally, PBSD School Board member Henry Dabner told the board Tuesday night that he is planning to resign on Wednesday.
Robinson became the Pine Bluff superintendent June 6, 2016. Before coming to Pine Bluff, Robinson served eight years as middle school turnaround principal, director of priority/turnaround schools, and instructional director in Prince George’s County Public Schools, Maryland. He supervised 13 schools with more than 10,000 students.
He worked with multiple departments across the system. Previously, Robinson worked as a middle school teacher, high school assistant principal and elementary principal at metro Atlanta school districts and an elementary, intermediate, and middle/junior high school teacher in Texas and Louisiana, his home state.
In 2004, Robinson obtained his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University in Sarasota, Fla.; 2003 – a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy University; 2002 – a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Troy State University at Atlanta ; and in 1996 – a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Southern University at New Orleans.
