A Pine Bluff man who pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery in 2022 was arrested on a similar allegation July 21 and is now facing a felony.

Earl Ervin, 48, was taken into custody after police stopped a vehicle Ervin was driving after he fled from his residence following the incident.

During a court hearing Wednesday, Detective Keith Banks explained that police were sent to a residence in the 1300 block of West 30th Avenue at about 6:38 p.m. in response to an unknown trouble call.

When Ervin was questioned, he allegedly admitted getting into a verbal altercation with his wife and said she fell while taking a swing at him and that is how she got the injuries. He denied hitting her.

Because of the prior conviction, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $7,500 bond for Ervin after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with second offense third-degree domestic battery. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled and told to come back to court Aug. 28.
