A Pine Bluff man previously convicted of several felonies was arrested in the early morning hours Monday after a gun fell from his pants after he fell while running from police.

In addition to the prior convictions, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said during a court hearing Monday that Eddie Briley, 40, has three pending drug and gun-related charges.

Reading from an affidavit from Detective Corey Wilfong, Carson said at 1 a.m., police were sent to a reported disturbance at 5320 Dollarway Road, the United Filling Station convenience store.

A rifle was found in the back seat of the vehicle Briley was driving.

He was taken to the detention center where officers attempted a field sobriety test but Briley complained of pain. He refused medical treatment and was not able to perform a breath alcohol test. He was not interviewed because of his intoxication.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $15,000 cash-only bond for Briley after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with being a felon in possession of a firearm and endangering the welfare of a minor. He said he would hire his own attorney.
