According to a news release from the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, a Drew County man is being held on a $100,000 bond for allegedly holding his mother at gunpoint at her home and refusing to leave. Jared Meyer, 34, likely will be charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.
On June 25, when the alleged incident is said to have occurred, Meyer’s mother reportedly called 911 saying that her son had pointed two guns at her and would not allow her to leave but she managed to escape, run down a road, and get away, according to the news release.
When Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober and his deputy, John Herrington, arrived they instructed Meyer to exit the home. Meyer exited the home briefly and walked onto the front porch wearing a bullet-proof vest, then reentered the home, according to the news release.
Meyer, who could then be seen through a glass door, was again asked to exit the home so authorities could speak with him.
“When asked by Sheriff Gober if he had a weapon (Meyer) pulled up his shirt to reveal a 38-caliber revolver in his waistband,” the news release reads. “Meyer also had several knives on his person.”
According to the news release, there was a standoff lasting several minutes until the revolver was taken away from Meyer. In a court appearance on June 28, Circuit Judge Robert Gibson set a $100,000 bond. Meyer is being held at the Drew County Detention Center.
