For the past few months, a majority of the members of the Jefferson County Quorum Court and County Judge Gerald Robinson have failed to approve any legislation due to conflicts between the two sides.

Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., who has sued Robinson over finances for the sheriff’s department and was asked why there was this conflict and said this.

Woods said Robinson is responsible for presiding over quorum court meetings and ensuring that the agenda is followed and business gets done but he does not have a vote.

He said the Quorum Court is trying to reacquire the reclaim the powers they have under the state constitution.

“It looks ugly because the general public doesn’t know everything that has gone on, petty stuff that gets us distracted from the business we should be doing,” Woods said.
