On Thursday, a White Hall woman who says she has only played the lottery twice in her life claimed a $1 million lottery prize.

28-year-old Shayla Burton won on a $20 Ultimate Millions instant-ticket game.  Burton bought the winning ticket at the Sam Food Mart at 100 W. Grand and Division St. in Humphrey on Wednesday. She said she was with her dad, Leslie, who has been playing the lottery since 2009.

“My dad purchased a couple of $1 and $3 tickets and urged me to purchase a $20 ticket,” Burton said.

Burton took the chance but says that she didn’t realize she had won right away.

“Since I’ve only played the lottery twice, I didn’t know how to read it. I knew one person who wouldn’t have a problem determining if I won – my dad.”

Burton plans to use her winnings to help children in White Hall and Pine Bluff, along with making some home improvements.

“I still can’t believe that I won! I didn’t get much sleep last night, but I got more than my dad. He only slept an hour,” she said.

Burton is the 69th Arkansas lottery-made millionaire since 2009. According to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, she declined to take a photo.
