WCSD approves several items on agenda and introduced partnerships

The Watson Chapel School District conducted its regular monthly meeting Monday, with a total of six members present to make up the quorum. The meeting addressed several items on the agenda about their financial statement, several bids, and the hiring of several staff members including the new head basketball coach for the high school, and flooring upgrades.

The meeting was led by Sandra Boone and Superintendent Dr. Andrew Curry who introduced the financial statement that showed the district received $2,075,844.18 revenue in May and spent $1,357,676.67 in non-activity funds, leaving a total balance of $12,167,545.54.

Included in the bids included on the agenda were food service for the district’s food service program for the 2022-2023 school year. The WCSD facility manager spoke about the bid to polish floors in the high school building. Those bids were approved with the flooring amounting to approximately $105,000 with American Concrete.

The board also approved the employment of multiple staff members including teachers, specialized personnel, a head basketball coach for the high school Jevon Barnes, head baseball coach Johnathan Oxner, assistant football coach Jerry Balwin,  and an assistant girls basketball coach La’Travius Hill.

On another subject, Curry introduced a special guest, Chris Hart from Central Moloney who spoke to the board about the process of their partnership with WCSD. Hart explained that the partnership will be 100% funded by Central Moloney and that includes providing the equipment and material to prepare students for a full-time jobs after graduation.

Curry also spoke to Deltaplex news after the meeting and mentioned a possible partnership with other local entities in the community such as Jefferson Regional.
