A two-vehicle accident in Lonoke County Thursday afternoon resulted in the death of two people.

According to a preliminary report, Laiken Sloan May, 25, of El Paso, Arkansas was northbound on Arkansas Highway 5 near North Heights when she lost control of the 2020 Ford Explorer she was driving and hit a guardrail on the east side of the roadway. She corrected and crossed the center line and began driving north in the southbound lane.

The front of her vehicle struck the front of a 2001 Jeep Laredo driven by Roland Wayne Hogan, 65, of Batesville that had been southbound.

After impact both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident was reported at 2:15 p.m. and the two deaths bring to 523 the number of people killed on the state’s highways so far this year.
