SeArk College recently named Steven Adams, Jr. as its inaugural head baseball coach as administrators work to get the SeArk Sharks athletic programs off of the ground.

Adams holds a Master of Science in Sport Administration and a Bachelor of General Studies with minors in History and Social Science, both from Northwestern State University.

He has served as Director of Baseball Operations at Eastern Kentucky University and Co-Founder and Director of Baseball Operations and Player Development at Team Louisiana HS Summer Baseball Organization.

From 2016 to 2021, he served as the Head Baseball Coach, Educator, CDL Bus Driver, and Outside Sports Field Maintenance staff for Baseball, Softball, and Soccer at Louisiana State University of Alexandria. During his tenure, he raised over $271,000, graduated 55 student-athletes, and helped 14 players move on to play professional baseball. He also managed to carry between 45-65 student-athletes every year with no more than three total coaches on staff.

He has also received several awards and honors, including the 2006 Northwood’s League Coach of the Year, several RRAC Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, All-American, and All-Louisiana team selections.

Adams spoke with Deltaplex News Tuesday morning to give his thoughts on the job at SeArk and what is needed to get things off the ground.

One of the first things Adams has to do is start recruiting, and he said he wants to start local with the caliber of talent that is in Pine Bluff and the surrounding areas.

He said that there are other areas outside of Arkansas that he can recruit from as well, but beating the other in-state junior colleges or talent will be the number one goal.

Adams said he wants to work towards forming a relationship with Carlos James and the UAPB baseball staff so they can possibly utilize the “sign and place” option where UAPB can sign a baseball player, but send them to SeArk for further development either on the field or in the classroom if needed.

Adams will be on campus next week to get started on the job, and he said that there are several things he has to do as soon as he gets on the ground running.

Recruiting is going to be critical for getting the program off of the ground, and Adams shared what he will be looking for as he works to fill his first signing class.
