Schools in eight Southeast Arkansas Counties are among 75 schools statewide to receive funding to set up calming rooms for the mental well being of students.

The students will receive 2,500 grants from Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield  through their “Take Good Care Calming Room Initiative.”

The company cited data that showed more than 14 percent, or 83,135 children and teens are dealing with anxiety and depression.

Southeast Arkansas Schools receiving funding were Dewitt High School, Warren High School, Woodlawn Elementary School, Fordyce High School, Monticello High School Sheridan High School, Pine Bluff Junior High School and Star City High School.

The funding will help the schools create a space to “regulate their emotions and feature soft lighting, tranquil colors, comfortable furniture, inspirational messages, coloring books and other objects to assist with the goal of reducing anxiety.
