Prosecutors will have to wait until January before starting the trial of a man accused of killing a Pine Bluff Police Officer almost three years ago.

The trial of Keshone Smith, who is charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Officer Kevin Collins was to have started this week but was moved after only five jurors had been selected in a process that spanned four days.

Smith, now 22, was arrested after police went to a motel on Blake Street in an attempt to locate him for involvement in a homicide in Georgia. He is accused of shooting at police who returned fire, wounding Smith.

Collins died at Jefferson Regional Hospital and a second officer, Lt. Ralph Issac was wounded.

Prosecutors were seeking the death penalty for Smith.
