A child who was shot in Pine Bluff last week remains in critical condition today, according to a news release from the Pine Bluff Police Department (PBPD).

On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, police responded to the 3000 block of Georgia Street in Pine Bluff in reference to a call that shots were fired.  When they arrived, they discovered that a 14-year-old victim had been shot, the release stated.  The victim was transported to a local hospital then transferred to a Little Rock hospital.

“The investigation revealed a wrecked vehicle off the road near the scene of the shooting.  The driver was located and reported he was shot at from another vehicle,” PBPD authorities said in the release.

The driver reported he was traveling north on Georgia Street when a passenger in a car behind him begin firing at him.  He ducked down which led to his vehicle flipping into a field.  The driver was not seriously injured and was questioned and released, according to the PBPD.

The grandmother of the victim reported that she had given her keys to the victim to unlock the door.  She stated that someone began shooting from across the street.

“She too ducked down and when the shooting was over, she was alerted by her husband that her grandchild had been shot.  The investigation indicates the 14-year-old victim in this shooting was an innocent bystander just opening a door when they were shot,” PBPD authorities said in the release.
