Jefferson County Sheriff’s investigators are still pursuing leads in the Sunday shooting death of Laquavis Thomas, 20, whose body was found on Wilbur West Road near Bayou Bartholomew at 5:53 p.m. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy)

Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., appeared on the Oldies 101.3 morning show Tuesday and talked about the case.

Rumors circulating on social media and other places claimed that Thomas’ body had been dumped and the shooting occurred elsewhere, but Woods said that did not appear to be the case.

A recent fight on the campus of Pine Bluff High School resulted in the arrest of several juveniles who had run from the campus and were caught near Relyance Bank on Poplar Street. Woods talked about the neighborhood, particularly since there are a number of abandoned buildings which have been described as “good places to hide.”
