The snow and ice storm that hit Pine Bluff and Jefferson County in February caused significant problems to the adult jail and juvenile detention centers due to low water pressure.

On Tuesday, Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., talked to Deltaplex News and was asked if things are getting back to normal now.

He also talked about the problems that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented to detention facilities.

Earlier this month, the Jefferson County Quorum Court approved legislation to give pay raises to all county employees, including certified deputies whose salaries will increase by 5 percent, retroactive to Jan. 1.

Woods was asked if the raises would make his department competitive with departments in surrounding areas.

With the pay increase, certified deputies now earn $32,813 annually.
