The Sheridan City Council voted recently to buy new helmets for the Fire Department.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, Fire Chief Ben Hammond, has told the Mayor he is in the process of finalizing the purchase of the new helmets and the council approved a bid of $13,000 to buy the helmets.

Ata previous meeting, Hammond said that by law, helmets needed to be replaced every 10 years.

Also at the meeting, Police Chief Jason Teague said military police at the Jacksonville Air Force Basse have contacted him about possibly housing some of their inmates.

The newspaper reported that the U.S. Marshal’s Office currently has a contract to house inmates at the jail.  He told the council he would like to charge the Air Force a similar rate to the one paid by the marshal’s service which is $50 per day.
