The Pine Bluff School District Board of Directors has voted to eliminate school uniforms for the 2023-2024 school year.

Previously, students were required to wear black or khaki pants and a solid color polo shirt with the color designating the students’ grade level.

Superintendent Jennifer Barbaree asked for the change after meeting with students and parents during policy handbook meetings.

Students will no longer be prohibited from wearing hoodies, but their use is restricted to outdoors only. Also, no sunglasses indoors, no sagging, shorts must come to at least mid-thigh and dresses and skirts must come within three inches of the knee.

All shirts and tops must have sleeves to cover the shoulders for both males and females no pants with holes, tears, or rips above mid-thigh. Any clothing that reveals gang insignia is not to be worn, and student ID badges for grades 7-12 are part of the dress code and must be worn at all times.

Face coverings displaying illegal drugs, obscene, lewd or vulgar language, tobacco, gang symbols, bandanas and political statements are prohibited. Also prohibited are pajamas and house shoes, blankets and trench coats and students should not wear clothing that reveals midriff.
