Quorum Court again accomplishes nothing

Another month, another meeting of the Jefferson County Quorum Court that accomplished nothing.

With Justice of the Peace Danny Holcomb absent, the county’s legislative body failed to move even one piece of legislation from the finance committee to the full court in a special called meeting that preceded the regular meeting Monday night.

That special called meeting was designed to consider 10 pieces of legislation that were on the agenda during committee meetings last week but did not get moved because the justices of the peace lacked a quorum as half of the county’s legislators failed to vote.

Finance Committee Chairman Ted Harden spent the better part of 30 minutes arguing with Justice of the Peace Lloyd Franklin Jr., who is leading the opposition to any legislation proposed by County Judge Gerald Robinson.

After the meeting, Harden was asked about that confrontation.

When the regular meeting started, Franklin said that acting on the advice of their attorney, they were refusing to use the agenda prepared by Robinson’s office and wanted to use one prepared by the county clerk’s office, an agenda he said they discussed in a meeting last week that Robinson has called illegal.

Robinson was asked about the lack of getting anything done and said this.

Robinson went on to say the disagreements they have with the agenda have to be fixed in court because we know the legislation they tried to pass is illegal.

The County Judge will appear on the Oldies 1013 morning show Tuesday in the 8 o’clock hour to talk about the meeting, and about the lawsuit he has filed against the members of the quorum court.
