By a vote of 6-2, the Pine Bluff City Council on Monday night authorized Mayor Shirley Washington to enter into a development agreement with the P3 group for housing in the downtown area and for the hotel attached to the convention center, which passed with 5 votes for and 3 against.

On Tuesday, Washington talked with Deltaplex News about the project.

Council member Joni Alexander, who sponsored both resolutions explained to Deltaplex News what the P3 group will do.

Washington said the plan calls for between 65 and 100 units in the apartment complex and before the plan is presented to the full council for approval, it will be presented to the general public so they will be aware of what is being proposed.

Washington also talked about the need for improvements to the convention center hotel.

Alexander said the council’s actions Monday was only the first step in the process.

She was also asked how the members of the council could be against the proposals.
