Now that the Pine Bluff School District has been returned to local control, the board held its first meeting Monday night and Superintendent Jennifer Barbaree was asked what the district does now.

Barbaree was a guest on the Oldies 1013 morning show Tuesday and explained that a special board meeting has been called for tonight to approve the district’s budget which morning show host Greg Horne said he understood that to be $61.5 million which he described as “not a small number.”

She said that amount does not include the additional millage voters approved which will not be collected until January 2024 so the extra amount wasn’t included because the district does not have it.

Horne said he thought most of that extra money would go to the cost of building a new high school and asked Barbaree if that was correct.
