The Monticello Economic Development Commission was told recently that the unemployment rate for Drew County was 3.7 percent, with 7,687 people working and another 284 not working.

During a meeting Dec. 7, Chairman Benny Ryburn reported that sales tax collections in Monticello for November were $274,000, an increase of $26,000 compared to last November. Collections for the county totaled $585,000, an increase of $35,000.

According to the Advance Monticellonian newspaper, a collection rate of 135 percent was reported, meaning that the county is getting a 100 percent collection from residents while an additional 53 percent is coming from outside sources.
