Voters in the Pine Bluff School District spoke loudly Tuesday, approving a millage increase that will be used in part to build a brand-new high school for the district.

Complete but unofficial results were as follows:
For the millage increase 1,710 or 61.7 percent.

Against the increase 1,060 or 38.3 percent.

Pine Bluff District Superintendent Jennifer Barbaree was at the election commission office when the final totals were announced, and she was asked her reaction to them.

Barbaree also was asked if she was surprised that the increase won by the percentage it did and she answered this way.

The millage increase never trailed as the votes were announced at the commission office, which had to be powered by a generator after electricity in the downtown area was cut off following an incident where a still unidentified man died Monday night while apparently trying to steal copper cable from a transformer in the area.

Power was restored to the Jefferson County Courthouse Tuesday morning, but Election Commission Chairman Mike Adam told Deltaplex News that power to their building was not expected to be restored until late Tuesday evening.

Deltaplex News asked Barbaree if she wanted to say anything to the people who turned out to support the millage increase and she responded this way.
