The Woodlawn School District has selected a new construction manager to build an addition to the school cafeteria after cost estimates for the project by the previous company were deemed to be too high.
At a special called meeting last week, Brody Richardson Construction of Sheridan was at the top of four companies who submitted proposals for the project.
According to the Cleveland County Herald, estimated costs for the cafeteria project by the original company, Clark Construction gave an estimated price of $350 per square foot based on preliminary drawings but that price increased to $700 per square foot, causing the board to decide and go in a different direction.
The cafeteria expansion will add nearly 2,800 square feet of additional dining space as well as extra storage and refrigeration space.
The board hoped that by choosing a different construction company, they would be able to save enough money to build a career education center.
