Weyerhaeuser Company officially broke ground Wednesday on a $500 million TimberStrand manufacturing facility in South Arkansas, a significant investment expected to create 200 high-quality jobs and boost the regional economy.

Located near Monticello and Warren, the new facility will produce TimberStrand laminated strand lumber — an engineered wood product known for its strength, consistency, and versatility in both single- and multi-family wood-frame construction. Once operational, the plant will add roughly 10 million cubic feet of annual production capacity to help meet growing demand in the construction sector.

Weyerhaeuser President and CEO Devin W. Stockfish emphasized the company’s long-standing relationship with the Natural State, noting that the company has operated in Arkansas since the 1950s.

“This is a great, great place to do business at the state level. At the local level, we’ve really just had wonderful engagement across the board — all the way from the Governor’s Office to the local community, state legislature, and federal,” Stockfish said. “The support and engagement from Arkansas officials was a major factor in our decision to invest here.”

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders praised Weyerhaeuser’s decision and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to supporting industries where Arkansas has a competitive advantage.

“Arkansas is competing where we know we can win, like in the timber industry, which is why we’ve made big investments in skills-based education, including at the new Forest Research Center at the University of Arkansas – Monticello,” said Sanders. “Major companies like Weyerhaeuser are paying attention, and we are grateful for their investment in South Arkansas.”

Construction is now underway, with company and state officials anticipating a significant economic ripple effect in the surrounding communities once the facility becomes operational.
