The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) STEM Academy welcomed Entergy leaders to campus this April for an event designed to connect students with real-world opportunities in the energy and utilities sector. Around 150 STEM Academy students met with Entergy professionals for a day of learning, networking, and mentorship.
The event took place in the UAPB STEM Building. Students led campus tours and attended a panel discussion focused on careers and workforce development. During lunch, students and Entergy representatives discussed ways to strengthen partnerships and create lasting connections.
Entergy’s team included Patty Riddlebarger, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility, Braxton Bennett, senior manager of Power Plant Operations, Dr. Tridai Taylor, senior manager of Human Resources Business Partner, Ventrell Thompson, vice president of Customer Service, and Lisa Henderson, university relations recruiter. Each shared personal stories about their career journeys and offered advice on navigating education and finding the right fit in the workforce.
Students asked questions about internships, leadership skills, and communication. Entergy leaders shared information about opportunities across Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana. They emphasized their commitment to developing a diverse talent pipeline and supporting students as they move from education to employment.
This visit supports Entergy’s Power of Prosperity initiative. This program expands access to scholarships, workforce development, internships, and financial resources. It also introduces tools like investment accounts to help students build financial stability for the future.
Laura Hildreth, STEM Academy Program Coordinator, highlighted the importance of exposing students to career options early. She explained how programs like Sparking STEM help students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities. Hildreth believes these experiences give students the confidence to see themselves in energy careers.
Jaimie D. Wright, Corporate and Foundations Relations Officer at UAPB, pointed out that these partnerships show students what’s possible. By connecting education with industry, students can explore career pathways and see the value of building their futures in Arkansas.
Entergy leaders expressed excitement about the STEM Academy and its students. Patty Riddlebarger thanked UAPB for the visit and looked forward to more collaboration. Dr. Tridai Taylor shared her enthusiasm for supporting students as they work toward their goals.
The UAPB STEM Academy supports students from entry through graduation, providing academic support, professional development, and hands-on learning experiences. The Academy helps students prepare for competitive careers or graduate study.
This visit marked another step in a growing partnership between UAPB and Entergy. Both organizations plan to expand collaboration on internships, scholarships, and career preparation. Are you thinking about a future in STEM or energy? Events like this show that strong partnerships between schools and employers can open doors and help you reach your career goals.
