The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Department of Social Work was represented at the Social Work Action Coalition Conference, where faculty and students presented research focused on maternal mental health in Arkansas.
Dr. Tamara Glover, a licensed clinical social worker and associate professor, joined interim department chair Felicia Cooper and Bachelor of Social Work students Rosland Daniels and Amanda Knight to deliver a presentation centered on strengthening maternal mental health through community-engaged practice and education.
The group’s presentation emphasized ongoing challenges facing mothers across Arkansas, including postpartum depression, stigma surrounding mental health, and disparities in access to care. Presenters also highlighted the importance of culturally responsive services and the role of social workers in advocating for systemic change.
Glover incorporated her personal experience with postpartum depression into the presentation, offering insight that connected research with real-world impact.
The presentation also underscored the university’s approach to preparing future social workers through hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship and community-based initiatives. Daniels and Knight shared their experiences as students developing the skills needed to address maternal mental health in their careers.
University officials said the presentation reflects UAPB’s continued involvement in addressing critical social issues and promoting equity in mental health care across Arkansas.
