Two people are being sought on manslaughter charges after authorities determined that dogs they owned fatally attacked a 63-year-old man whose body was discovered last week.
According to the Pine Bluff Police Department, officers responded just after 6:30 a.m. Feb. 26 to the 2105 block of South Oak Street following a report of a dead body. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive older male lying just off the roadway in front of a residence.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and was believed to have died some time before being discovered. Police initially reported that the victim did not have any readily identifiable gunshot or stab wounds. Although investigators did not immediately believe the death to be a homicide, the case was investigated as one pending a determination of the cause and manner of death by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.
During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that dogs owned by Crystal Mayo, 41, and John Mayo, 42, attacked and killed the victim, identified as Kenny Christopher, 63.
Arrest warrants have been issued for both Crystal and John Mayo on manslaughter charges in connection with Christopher’s death.
Crystal Mayo is described as being approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 130 pounds. John Mayo is described as approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing around 300 pounds.
Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the pair. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to contact the detective office tip line at 870-730-2106, the detective office at 870-730-2090, or the dispatch center at 870-541-5300.
