Two separate crashes in south Arkansas on April 3 claimed one life each while the first accident left another person injured, according to the Arkansas State Police.
The first crash occurred at approximately 5:09 p.m. in Camden at the intersection of Cash Road and Washington Street in Ouachita County.
According to a preliminary report, Marvin Lamar Brown, 48, of McNeil, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Cash Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the vehicle, 39-year-old Shamika Shante Milton of Camden, was injured in the crash. Authorities did not release details on the extent of her injuries.
Officials said weather conditions at the time were cloudy and the roadway was dry.
Less than two hours later, a second fatal crash was reported in Ashley County.
At approximately 6:50 p.m., Ricki Jean Rich, 77, of Parkdale, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on State Highway 8 near Ashley Road 34 when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree.
Rich, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities said rainy weather and wet road conditions were present at the time of the Ashley County crash.
Both crashes remain under investigation by Arkansas State Police.
