Arkansas State Police (ASP) are investigating a deadly multi-vehicle crash that occurred late Friday night, May 30, on State Highway 109 near the Morrison Bluff Bridge in Logan County.
The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. and involved a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, a Toyota RAV4, and an 18-wheeler.
According to ASP investigators, a 16-year-old male from Scranton was behind the wheel of the Camaro, which was traveling southbound at speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour when it rear-ended the Toyota RAV4. The force of the impact pushed the RAV4 into the northbound lane, where it collided head-on with a semi-truck.
The crash claimed the lives of 20-year-old Mackenzie Arthur, the driver of the RAV4, and her 17-year-old female passenger, both of whom were from Scranton.
Following the investigation, the juvenile driver of the Camaro was arrested and charged with two counts of Manslaughter. He has been transported to the Yell County Juvenile Detention Center.
In addition, 71-year-old Martha Jane Phillips, also of Scranton, was charged with two counts of Manslaughter for her role in furnishing a vehicle to a minor without a driver’s license. She was booked into the Logan County Detention Center.
