Two Arrested After Suspected Copper Theft at New Edinburg School

Two men were arrested early Friday morning after deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity at the New Edinburg School building.

According to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department, a concerned citizen contacted authorities at approximately 3:12 a.m. to report unusual activity around the school. Deputies responded to the scene and apprehended two males as they were exiting the building.

Investigators found evidence indicating the suspects were in the process of attempting to steal copper from the facility.

The men were identified as Jarod Langford, 35, of New Edinburg, and Taylor Stanford, 31, of Fordyce. Both were taken into custody and transported to the Cleveland County Jail.

Langford and Stanford are facing charges of Commercial Burglary and Criminal Attempt at Theft of Property. A probable cause hearing will be scheduled, and the case information will be forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office for consideration of formal charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
