State Police Investigating Hampton Woman’s Death; Suspect Charged with First-Degree Murder

The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the death of a Hampton woman following an assault reported early Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025.

According to authorities, Hampton police officers and emergency personnel were called to a residence in the 600 block of South 2nd Street around 6 a.m. Sunday, where they found 62-year-old Katherine Brice unconscious and suffering from injuries.

Brice was transported to UAMS in Little Rock for treatment but died later that evening.

State Police special agents quickly opened an investigation, leading to the arrest of 55-year-old Roderick Freemont on a charge of first-degree murder. He was booked into the Calhoun County Detention Center.

No additional details about the incident have been released as the investigation continues.
