A loss of engine power forced the pilot of a small aircraft to attempt an emergency landing along U.S. Highway 270 in Grant County on Sunday afternoon, resulting in a crash that left two men with minor injuries.
The aircraft came down near Hurricane Creek, roughly four miles east of Sheridan. According to information from the scene, the pilot was attempting to land on the highway when the plane struck a road sign before leaving the roadway and coming to rest in a grassy area alongside the westbound lane.
Emergency responders evaluated the pilot and passenger at the scene. Both suffered minor abrasions and were able to walk away from the wreckage. No serious injuries were reported.
Authorities have not released the identities of the two occupants.
The circumstances surrounding the reported power loss remain under investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to investigate the crash, while Arkansas State Police are expected to release additional information.
