The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has released new details regarding a tense standoff that unfolded over the weekend in Sheridan and ended with a local man in custody.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance at 362 Grant 69 at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3. When a responding deputy arrived on scene, Justin Blake Siler, 39, of Sheridan, was observed standing on the porch of the residence with a shotgun slung over his shoulder.
Authorities say efforts to negotiate with Siler were unsuccessful. The situation escalated when Siler allegedly began firing multiple shots into the air and in the direction of deputies on scene. Investigators say Siler then barricaded himself inside the home and continued firing in multiple directions, including toward law enforcement.
Due to the escalating threat, the Arkansas State Police SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team was called in to take over the operation. Officials emphasized that at no point during the incident did deputies or state troopers return fire.
The standoff continued for several hours before Siler was taken into custody by Arkansas State Police without further incident. He was transported to the Sheridan Detention Center, where he was booked at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5.
Siler is facing seven counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of third-degree domestic battering.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains ongoing.
