Mayor Cain Nattin announced Wednesday that the City of Sheridan has been selected to receive a $500,000 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant from the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) for the Sheridan Sidewalk Development, Phase 5 project.

The competitive federal grant program, administered by ARDOT and funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), supports efforts to expand pedestrian, bicycle, and non-motorized transportation options across Arkansas. TAP projects are designed to improve connectivity, safety, and accessibility for residents in local communities.

Nattin shared where the new sidewalks will be constructed.

Under the TAP program, 80% of project costs are federally reimbursed, with the remaining 20% covered locally. The funding supports the construction of sidewalks, multi-use trails, lighting, and other pedestrian safety improvements. Sheridan’s Phase 5 project marks the next step in the city’s ongoing initiative to enhance walkability and connectivity throughout the community.

Sheridan is one of 60 Arkansas communities to receive TAP funding in 2025, with statewide awards totaling more than $18.9 million.
