Students and staff at Watson Chapel High School are safe after reports of gunfire in a nearby neighborhood prompted school officials to activate emergency safety procedures.

In a message to parents, guardians and staff, Superintendent Keith McGee said the reported incident did not occur on school grounds but in the surrounding area.

Out of an abundance of caution, the school immediately implemented active shooter safety protocols, securing all students and staff inside the building while law enforcement responded.

Law enforcement officers remain in the area as they continue investigating the situation. School officials said they are working closely with authorities and will maintain heightened safety measures until advised otherwise.

“We understand that situations like this can cause concern, and we are committed to keeping you informed,” McGee said. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority.”

Parents with questions are encouraged to contact the school office. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
